Essentials
The NCPTA is committed to ensuring our members, not only maximise their fundraising efforts but do so without falling foul of current legislation or being at risk from prosecution.
- Our subscription linked insurance provides comprehensive cover for PTA committee members and the events you offer.
- PTAs, in England and Wales with an income in excess of £5,000 are legally required to register as a charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. NCPTA members who have adopted the NCPTA model constitution can apply for fast track charity registration.
- For our members in Northern Ireland, the NCPTA offers a model constitution and guidance on applying for charity registration with HM Revenue and Customs Charities division.
- The safeguarding of children is a very important issue for all associations and the requirement to undertake Criminal Records Bureau checks (England and Wales) and Criminal Records checks (in Northern Ireland) is continually evolving. Working through the requirements can seem daunting, so the NCPTA has produced a series of Information sheets which explain what is currently required.
- When planning a PTA event you must ensure that you obtain the correct licenses. The NCPTA has produced a range of Information sheets on the various licences you may require.
- Health and Safety at PTA events must be a priority. Check out our Information sheet health and safety at PTA events for more guidance.
- CAF Bank in partnership with the NCPTA offer an enhanced charity banking service to PTAs that are registered as charities and members of the NCPTA (England & Wales only).

- The Economic Downturn
In light of the recession the Charity Commission has produced a new resource, a check-list for trustees in the form of 15 questions. it has been written for all charities big and small so not all questions will be relevant to PTAs, it just depends on how you operate.
