The NCPTA Team

David Butler OBE - Chief Executive

David was recruited in 1998 to restructure the charity and increase the focus on services to its then 11,000 member associations. In 1999 he was appointed a Director of the Charity's trading company NCPTA Enterprises Ltd.

David was born and educated in Newcastle Upon Tyne, studied statistics and mathematics at the University of Bath and took a postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies at Northumbria University. Prior to taking up his role at NCPTA he was Director of Marketing and Development at an FE college.

David's involvement with PTAs began when his wife was Chair of the PTA at the Primary School attended by their children.

David is also:

  • a Trustee of the e-Learning Foundation
  • a member of the QCA Committee responsible for Ofqual
  • a member of the National Judging Panel for the Teaching Awards Trust
  • a member of the Ministerial Working Group on Governance
  • a past member of the General Teaching Council for England

David was awarded an OBE in the New Year 2008 Honours List in recognition of his contribution to the Community and to Education.

David Newberry - Finance Manager

David joined the NCPTA in April 1999. He was appointed Company Secretary of the Charity and a Director and Company Secretary of the Charity's trading company NCPTA Enterprises Ltd later the same year. David is responsible for all financial issues including links with the charity's bankers, auditors and investment advisors and with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

He also manages all aspects of the NCPTA membership database, its accounting systems and the Charity's subscription linked member insurance services. David is supported in his management of NCPTA membership records and insurance claims by a team of two Member Services Administrators:


Clare Williams - Member Services Administrator

Clare joined the NCPTA in December 2000 and is often the first point of contact for member associations as she deals with a wide range of member enquiries received via our Advice Line and email. Clare also provides secretarial support for the Chief Executive. 

 

Helen Robey - Member Services Administrator

Helen joined the NCPTA in February 2001. Working with Clare, Helen deals with all insurance related issues and responds to general membership enquiries. Helen is also responsible for keeping member information on the NCPTA database up to date.

 

Jane Galbraith - Membership Development Manager

Jane joined the NCPTA in September 2004 and is responsible for recruiting and maintaining members and developing the NCPTA’s portfolio of membership benefits. The Membership Development team consists of eleven advisers (nine covering England, one in Northern Ireland and one in Wales). Jane and the Adviser team are suuported by a membership development administrator. Together our aim is to support PTAs on a national and local level, increase recruitment, aid retention and raise the profile of the NCPTA both nationally and regionally. Jane is supported by:  

Caroline Wingfield - Membership Development Administrator

Caroline was recruited in November 2006 as part of the NCPTA's expansion of its membership development team.  Caroline is based at NCPTA's head office in Tonbridge and provides administrative support for Jane and the network of NCPTA Advisers who provide local membership support within their various regions.

 

The NCPTA currently has a team of eleven Advisers, providing local support and assistance. The Adviser team offer local fundraising workshops and regional PTA training events, dealing with issues of current interest to PTAs. In addition, regional advisers raise the profile of PTAs locally by liasing with Childrens' Services, Local Education Authorities, Education Library Boards and other key audiences.     

Karen Wood - Regional Adviser, North West

Karen joined the NCPTA in January 2005 and is responsible for supporting and advising member PTAs in the North West region.  Karen has a son of school age and is well versed in the vital role a PTA can play.

 
Lee Walker - Regional Adviser, North East

Lee joined NCPTA in January 2005 and is the local point of contact for PTAs throughout the North East. The mother of two school aged children, Lee is involved in their PTA so has a wealth of experience of her own. 

 
Jayne Thompson - Adviser, Northern Ireland

Jayne joined the NCPTA in January 2007 and is looking to see the number of PTAs in membership throughout Northern Ireland increase dramatically now she is in post.    

 

Pauline Dent - Regional Adviser, Yorkshire and The Humber

Pauline joined the NCPTA in January 2008 and works with PTAs in  Yorkshire & The Humber. With three school aged children, Pauline has a wealth of PTA experience. Ask Pauline about the Groundforce Day run by her association and how this changed the life of the school.                                                        

Lynne Maguire - Regional Adviser, West Midlands

Lynne joined the NCPTA in November 2003 and is on hand to assist PTAs in the West Midlands. She has two school aged children , so understands the problems and opportunities that face PTAs.

 

Ann Sturgess - Regional Adviser, East Midlands

Ann joined the NCPTA in January 2007 and is the local point of contact for PTAs in the East Midlands region.  With school aged children, Ann has always been associated with their PTA so can draw on this experience.

 

Madeleine Jarrett - Regional Adviser, South West

Madeleine joined the NCPTA in January 2007 and provides support for PTAs throughout the South West. As a mother of two, with two step-children , Madeleine has her own PTA experience and so can understand the challenges PTAs face.

 
Alison Allen - Regional Adviser, Eastern

Alison joined the NCPTA in January 2007 and is the local point of contact for PTAs throughout the region. Alison has a PTA background and a wealth of practical experience on PTA related issues.

 

Yvonne Treves - Regional Adviser, Greater London

Yvonne joined the NCPTA in August 2002 and is responsible for supporting PTAs in Greater London.  Yvonne has a breadth of experience having been involved in her own children's PTA for a number of years.

 

Caroline Gaskin - Regional Adviser, South East

Caroline joined the NCPTA in January 2005 and is the contact for PTAs in the South East. Caroline has a wealth of experience on which to draw in relation to the highs (and lows) of being involved with a PTA.

 
Nicole James - Adviser Wales

Nicole joined the NCPTA in January 2008 and is the first NCPTA Adviser for PTAs in Wales. Nicole has son who attends a welsh medium school and is learning to speak welsh herself. Nicole is looking forward to supporting all home school groups throughout Wales and to seeing the number of associations in NCPTA membership grow significantly, now that she is in post.

Annette Wiles - Policy and Research Manager

Annette joined the NCPTA in June 2005 and is responsible for all aspects of policy and research for the NCPTA. Using a range of research methods, Annette collates the views of parents on key education issues including parental involvement. Annette also seeks the views of members on the products and services we offer, both to improve the benefits we offer and develop NCPTA guidance for PTAs.

Laura Warren - Communications Manager

Laura joined the NCPTA in April 2005. Together with the NCPTA's Press Officer, Laura is responsible for media relations. This ranges from responding to media enquiries on a daily basis and maintaining contact with both national and regional media to preparing and releasing pro-active media releases on issues facing members. Laura is also responsible for internal and external communications for the NCPTA. This includes the production of PTA magazine, News & Views newsletter and information sheets.

Margaret Morrissey OBE - Press Officer

Margaret has been involved with the NCPTA for many years and was awarded an OBE in 1994 for her work with the organisation. Margaret deals with daily media enquiries from both local and national media which often result in television and radio interviews. She also reviews the newspapers for stories about the NCPTA and other relevant items. Together with Laura, Margaret maintains the media contact programme and develops positive pro-active items for news releases and comment.
